Entering the shop is a step back in time: the building itself was constructed in 1710, and is listed. The interior is almost entirely original, right down to the archway sculpted with dancing fauns. The original hardwood floors are scattered with Persian rugs and mismatched antique bookcases line the original plaster walls. Pride of place is given to the legendary 'Browser's Sofa' on which many a customer has spent a blissful hour.
The Treadwell's notice board posts fliers of upcoming events that relate to the history and practice of esoteric groups. The staff are always pleased to give advice on London events and sites.
Treadwells also hire rooms out for individual practitioners of therapies, and also for meetings & functions (capacity 35 people seated). Day rates are £75 + VAT for weekdays and £85 + VAT for weekends, evenings are occasionally available. The hire includes a kitchenette with kettle, tea/coffee facilities, and CD player, candles, incense, tables & chairs.
